Zimbabwe golfers will be participating in regional games

FOLLOWING the start of the 2024 golf season in the country, a number of Zimbabwean players are scheduled to represent the country in regional tournaments and have been encouraged to give their all on the course.

Some of the regional tournaments lined up include the South African Swing, African Region 5 Amateur and the inaugural Africa Amateur Championships among others. Zimbabwean players who will be participating in regional games have been urged to play hard.

Speaking after the completion of the season opener, the Dugmore tournament at Bulawayo Golf Club, Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) president Martin Chikwana encouraged the players to give their all and card good scores and raise the country’s flag up high on the international arena.

“As you go out there, and have an opportunity to represent the 16 million people in Zimbabwe, I know it’s hard to carry such a burden but as long as they go out there and give it their all, and do the best they can I’m sure we will all be proud and as long as they card good scores. Golf is unlike other sports where it’s one against one, this is against a score, so as long as you play your part, record a good score, we are bound to be satisfied, I wish them the best.

“We will have Region Five this year as well as the South African Swing that’s coming in February so we hope the youngsters that will go out there and represent the country will do the best they can,” said Chikwana.

All tournaments that the Zimbabwean youngsters will be participating in are registered with the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and would therefore award the players the opportunity to gain good ranking points.

It will also be an opportunity for Zimbabwe’s top amateur players to showcase their skill and talent in high profile tournaments. – @brandon_malvin
