India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe Bramha Kumar has pledged his country’s continued support for the country’s skills development and capacity-building initiatives as part of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
He said this during a meeting he had with Zimbabweans who completed their skills training under the India Technical and Economic Cooperation programme.
Ambassador Kumar said the two nations have a strong and active relationship across various areas of mutual interest.
“Our agencies have successfully completed and commissioned the Deka pumping and river water intake system, funded by an Indian Line of Credit (LOC) amounting to US$48,1 million,” Ambassador Kumar said.
“India is eager to contribute to Zimbabwe’s energy sector development.”
Ambassador Kumar expressed India’s commitment to providing quality and affordable higher education to Zimbabwean youths.
He said approximately 5 000 Zimbabwean students are currently studying at Indian colleges and universities.
“India established 17 Indo-Zim technology centres in Zimbabwe in 2008, which were upgraded with the latest equipment in 2023,” he said.
“These centres provide valuable training opportunities for Zimbabwean youth and Government officials.”
The Indian Embassy in Harare is keen to further expand its cooperation with Zimbabwe in skills training and capacity building.
