Zimbabwe joins regional Malaria Day commemorations

Southern African countries today commemorated the SADC Malaria Day, which seeks to create awareness about malaria and mobilise the community to participate in malaria control programmes.

The annual event observed in November, highlights regional efforts and progress towards malaria elimination.

This year’s theme, ‘Resilient health systems and communities key to malaria elimination’ acknowledges the importance of having well-resourced resilient health systems as well as communities that are capacitated in the national health priorities and their role in the prevention and control of malaria.

Although Zimbabwe has recorded a significant decline in the incidence of the disease, there is still more that needs to be done to eliminate malaria by 2030, in line with regional targets.
