CHIRUMHANZU District, Midlands – Today, the Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, spearheaded the National Tree Planting Day commemorations in Chirumhanzu District.
This year’s theme, “Trees and forests for ecosystem restoration and improved livelihoods,” underscores the Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare.
The event marked the launch of the Presidential Legacy Forests Programme, aimed at planting 16 230 indigenous, eucalyptus, and assorted fruit trees nationwide. This initiative seeks to enhance biodiversity, combat climate change, and improve local livelihoods through sustainable forestry practices.
Officials highlighted the importance of tree planting in mitigating deforestation and promoting ecological balance, emphasising that such efforts are vital for the future of Zimbabwe’s natural resources and the well-being of its citizens.
