THE Zimbabwe National African Congress (ZANC) has condemned the illegal sanctions imposed on the country saying they are human rights violations causing extensive suffering for ordinary citizens.

The opposition party has joined southern Africa and like minded institutions to call for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

October 25 was set aside as Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) Anti-Sanctions Day where the regional bloc voices against the illegal sanctions on the country.

In a statement, ZANC president Mr Timothy Mncube said his party stands with Zimbabweans in denouncing the illegal sanctions.

“As the ZANC, we fully support the SADC region’s stance against the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. These sanctions have had far-reaching consequences, hindering economic growth and development in our nation. We believe that the removal of sanctions will not only benefit Zimbabweans but also enhance regional cooperation and foster a more prosperous SADC community,” said Mr Mncube.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe and the SADC region in calling for the lifting of these unjust sanctions.”

He urged the international community to recognize the progress that Zimbabwe has made in its economic recovery and the removal of the unjust sanctions will propel the country forward.

Mr Mncube said the illegal sanctions have affected economic growth and have limited the country’s credit lines.

“The sanctions have affected Zimbabwe’s ability to import essential goods, including maize, exacerbating food insecurity, the economic hardships caused by sanctions have indirectly affected the human rights of Zimbabweans, particularly in terms of access to healthcare and education,” said Mr Mncube.

“We, as the ZANC, are committed to working with the SADC region and the international community to ensure that these sanctions are lifted, and Zimbabwe is given the opportunity to reach its full potential.” – @nqotshili
