The President of Zimbabwe and Commander In Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and Chancellor of Zimbabwe National Defence University, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has implored the Zimbabwe National Defence University (ZNDU) to holistically adopt Education 5.0 for human capital development in conformity with its mandate of being the leading national defence and security institution in the region and beyond.
Speaking at the third graduation ceremony at Zimbabwe National Defence University, the President challenged the ZNDU to develop a vibrant science and innovation hub that can fulfil the dictates of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) in pursuit of achieving vision 2030.
As a university, ZNDU should also use cutting edge and innovative solutions creating a diverse and viable ecosystem. This will be more pertinent to the reputation of the institution.
Riding on innovative solutions, the President further exhorted the institution to start comprehensive research on renewable energy sources like biogas digester plants and renewable solar power projects among other projects that should see it growing at an accelerated pace.
ZNDU is one of the six State universities that were designated by the Government to host innovation hubs that are mandated to adopt the Education 5.0 for human capital development. If successfully implemented, it will be the leading national defence and security institution grounded on Zimbabwe’s national interests and values that provide quality programmes fostering continuous research and innovation to respond comprehensively to challenges within the realm of global defence and security.
