THE Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) has urged residents across cities and towns to take responsibility for the sustainability of essential services by paying their bills consistently and on time.

In a statement, ZNOART national chairman, Mr Shalvar Chikomba, said payment of rates, water bills and other service charges is critical in enabling local authorities and service providers to maintain infrastructure, improve service delivery and ensure the efficient functioning of communities.

“At the same time, ZNOART urges all local authorities and service providers to uphold their mandate by delivering reliable, efficient and quality services to residents,” he said.

Mr Chikomba urged service providers to improve transparency, efficiency and accountability.

“Local authorities must ensure collected revenue is properly utilised for infrastructure development and improved service delivery,” he said.

Mr Chikomba said ZNOART acknowledges the Government’s efforts in strengthening service delivery through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in local authorities, which have the potential to enhance efficiency and improve service provision when properly implemented.

He said residents demand reliable running water, improved waste management systems and consistent refuse collection, accessible and well-maintained roads.

In addition, he said they also want efficient sewer systems to prevent outbreaks such as cholera, enforcement of minimum service delivery standards as guided by the Government and uninterrupted and consistent service delivery across all sectors.

“ZNOART believes that shared responsibility, accountability and trust between residents and service providers are key to achieving sustainable, inclusive and effective service delivery in Zimbabwe,” said Mr Chikomba.
