Zimbabwe began their campaign for a place at next year’s ICC T20 World Cup, to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with a five-wicket victory over Uganda at Harare Sports Club today.
Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first, setting Zimbabwe a target of 153 runs to win in 20 overs. Uganda scored 152 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani each claimed three wickets, while Richard Ngarava took two wickets. Sikandar Raza also contributed by taking one wicket.
In pursuit of the 153-run target, Brian Bennett combined well with Brendon Taylor to put Zimbabwe in the driving seat with a 75-run partnership.
Bennett led Zimbabwe’s chase with his seventh career half-century, scoring 72 runs off 44 balls, while Taylor added 39 runs off 27 balls. Raza chipped in with 24 runs off 16 balls.
Zimbabwe successfully chased down the target in 17.3 overs for the loss of five wickets.
