Sunday Mail Reporter

PREPARATIONS for the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk 2026 are now at an advanced stage, with Zimpapers confirming that the official purple event regalia is now available at the company’s offices and the Harare Oncology Centre ahead of the nationwide event set for November 7.

This year’s event runs under the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters”, highlighting the individual experiences of cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and families affected by the disease.

Zimpapers corporate communications and sustainability manager Mrs Pauline Matanda encouraged Zimbabweans to register and don the event’s signature purple regalia in solidarity with the cancer cause.

“Purple is the general symbol for cancer survivors and all cancers. Purple symbolises hope, courage, resilience and unity.

“It reflects the strength of cancer survivors and patients while reminding us that every cancer journey is different and every story deserves to be heard,” said Mrs Matanda.

The walk, run and cycle event will start at 6am and will be held in Harare (Old Hararians Sports Club), Bulawayo (Chronicle Building), Mutare (Mutare Motoring Club), Gweru (Gweru Sports Club Cricket Fields), Chinhoyi (Chinhoyi Caves) and Masvingo (Caravan Park).

Participants will also benefit from various health and wellness services, including cancer screenings and other health checks.

Popular fitness personalities Zorro and his team, Sir Charles and wellness specialist Karorina are set to add energy to the event through Zumba sessions, aerobics and massage therapy.

Regular participants have also confirmed their participation.

Muzanenhamo, one of the event’s most passionate supporters, said she has been proudly wearing Cancer Power Walk T-shirts every Friday, showcasing different editions of the event dating back to 2016, in a personal effort to keep cancer awareness alive throughout the year.

“For the past several Fridays, I have been wearing Cancer Power Walk T-shirts from different years dating back to 2016.

“It is my way of keeping the conversation on cancer awareness going and encouraging more people to join this important cause.”

Mrs Matanda said companies should take advantage of the event as both a wellness programme and team-building platform, while contributing to the national fight against cancer.

Zimpapers also expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners whose support continues to make the event possible.

These include FBC Holdings Limited, the major sponsors; followed by POSB, NEC Printing & Publishing, NBSZ, Lobels Bread, LC Shipping, Harare Oncology Pharmacy, Puma,   Karorina’s Wellness Spa and Beauty School, Zimnat, Health Professions Authority Zimbabwe, Ecobank, Beyond Events, Zorro, Sir Charles  and Hybrid Travel & Tours.

“Their support demonstrates a shared commitment to promoting cancer awareness, early detection and healthier communities across Zimbabwe,” said Mrs Matanda.

Registration costs US$15 per person, while children under 12 years of age participate free of charge.

Mrs Matanda added that sponsorship opportunities remain available for organisations wishing to align their brands with a meaningful health and wellness initiative that is changing lives across Zimbabwe.
