IN a bid to promote financial literacy and empower Zimbabweans to make informed investment decisions, the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) is offering free capital market education programmes to the public.
The educational initiative has been designed to educate individuals about the intricacies of the stock market, investment opportunities, and the importance of sound financial decision-making. Responding to questions from this publication, ZSE chief executive officer, Mr Justin Bgoni said the facility was unveiled in 2020, with the launch of the training institute and training portal, aimed at providing specialised training for market participants and investors on various capital market subjects.
He revealed that the initiative underscores the ZSE’s commitment to fostering a more knowledgeable and well-equipped investor base while also enhancing market participants’ understanding of the intricacies of the capital markets.
“The ZSE’s educational programmes cover a wide array of topics, catering to both individuals and firms interested in understanding and engaging with the capital markets. These programmes include focused training on the listing requirements, ZSE products and services, as well as the process of investing on the stock exchange. The ZSE’s specialised training and seminars delve into more specific and intricate aspects of the capital markets. While these customised training sessions and seminars may involve a nominal fee, they provide an in-depth understanding of the listing requirements, ZSE products and services, and the process of investing on the stock exchange, enabling firms and individuals to delve deeper into the complexities of the capital markets,” said Mr Bgoni.
One of the flagship programmes offered by the ZSE is the “Investor Education Programme” which includes free courses available on the ZSE training portal. The courses cover general aspects of the capital markets, providing participants with fundamental knowledge and insights into the stock market, investment instruments, and the role of the stock exchange in driving economic growth.
“By offering these courses free of charge, the ZSE aims to democratise access to financial knowledge and promote a culture of educated investing and sound financial decision-making among the general public. By providing specialised training for market participants and investors, the ZSE is not only enhancing the capabilities of industry professionals to navigate the capital markets effectively but also creating a more robust and informed investor pool,” said Mr Bgoni.
The ZSE’s training initiatives are instrumental in bridging the knowledge gap and empowering individuals and firms to engage more effectively with the capital market. Mr Bgoni said by fostering a more knowledgeable investor base, the ZSE was contributing to the overall development of the capital market and the broader economy, facilitating an ecosystem where informed investments can drive economic growth and prosperity.
