THE South African Menswear Week (SAMW) Spring/Summer 2025 showcase, set to run from 22 to 25 October in Cape Town, will spotlight three Zimbabwean designers — Mbongisani Bhekokuhle Dube, Langelihle Ndlovu, and Brightman Dlamini — on one of the continent’s most prestigious fashion platforms.

SAMW has long been recognised for its commitment to elevating menswear design across Africa, offering a stage for emerging and established creatives to present their work to a global audience. The inclusion of three Zimbabwean talents this season marks a significant moment for the country’s fashion industry, reflecting its growing influence and innovation.

Among the trio is Mbongisani Bhekokuhle Dube, a multi-award-winning deep-tech entrepreneur and Creative DNA SEED Awardee. Dube is the founder of Okhle Haus, a brand that merges fashion with architecture, music, and technology. His approach to design is rooted in what he calls a “5D reality” — a concept that seeks to create immersive experiences through clothing and space.

Dube’s participation in SAMW forms part of the “I Wear My Culture” research programme, supported by the British Council. The initiative explores how fashion can serve as a medium for cultural storytelling and identity, themes that are central to Dube’s work.

Speaking ahead of the showcase, Dube said: “One of the bold visions for Okhle is to bridge the gap between music and fashion. We’re working on an album that celebrates African culture and spirituality, embedded directly into garments using NFC technology. It’s about creating a seamless fusion of art forms.”

Dube’s journey began at the age of 16, and over the years he has built a reputation for interdisciplinary creativity. His past collaborations include transforming temporary spaces into immersive art installations and mentoring young creatives through tech-driven initiatives.

While SAMW will feature designers from across the continent, the presence of Zimbabwean creatives — particularly those like Dube who are pushing boundaries — signals a shift in how Southern African fashion is being perceived and received.

The event is expected to draw industry professionals, media, and fashion enthusiasts from across Africa and beyond, offering a unique opportunity for Zimbabwean designers to engage with wider audiences and networks.

As SAMW continues to champion diversity and innovation in menswear, the participation of Dube, Ndlovu, and Dlamini underscores the vibrancy and potential of Zimbabwe’s fashion scene.
