ZIMBABWE Kobudo Ambassador Wilfred Mashaya was honoured at the Third World Humanitarian Festival of Martial Arts held in Montenegro on Monday night.
Kobudo is a martial art in which practitioners use swords, nunchaku, sai, wooden stuffs and other ancient weapons.
Mashaya, who became the first African to be a Kobudo World Champion in April this year in Spain, also doubles up as the Zimbabwe Sport Nunchaku Martial Arts president.
He was honoured for the International Master of the Year award and a Bujinkan Ninjutsu passport under the International Ninpo Taijutsu Organisation.
He was also awarded various certificates for his achievements around the world and his contribution as the pioneer of Kobudo Martial Arts in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Karate Union (ZKU) president Paul Danisa said Mashaya’s dedication to the sport saw him being appointed president of the Zimbabwe Sport Nunchaku by the World Nunchaku Association (WNA) based in the Netherlands after he attended a training seminar in Benoni, South Africa.
Mashaya is a holder of a second Dan Black Belt in World SoKyokushin Karate and a master’s degree Second Dan in Kobudo Martial Arts under the World Kobudo Association.
He is now undergoing a 10-day training self-defence training course and Bujinkan Ninjutsu Martial Arts tactics in Japan. – @khumzallen
