Zimbabwean boxer shines in South Africa

ZIMBABWEAN sports persons have been shining on the world stage in recent months and a young boxer has also put up his name to be counted among the country’s finest sports people after he won his fight in South Africa on Saturday night.

Beaven Sibanda, a boxer from the capital is making moves in his career across the Limpopo River after he beat South Africa’s Mfanuvele Ntuli in their international catch weight bout during the Lights Out tournament.

The fighter whose boxing moniker is “The One” won the hard fought four round bout via split decision after two of the judges gave him their nod.

His match was a one of the curtain raiser matches for the biggest fight of the night which was between South Africa’s Kevin Lerena and Poland’s Mariusz Wach where the former emerged victorious in the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) heavyweight inter-continental title fight.

Wach headed into the fight as the favourite of the match given his record of 36 wins compared to Lerena who is on 27.

The Zimbabwean boxer will have his fourth professional fight later this year. – @brandon_malvin
