THE Dean of Ambassadors in West Africa and Zimbabwean representative in Ghana, Kuga Chinoza, on Sunday welcomed cycling couple, Vusumuzi Mnkandla and Thandolwenkosi Tshuma, to Accra and lauded them for raising the national flag high.
The Zimbabwean cyclists, who have over the past 10 months cycled through 22 countries, arrived in the morning and were met by Lesley Kupahurasa at the eastern suburb of Tema, where they took a brief break before Ambassador Chinoza arrived to welcome them.
The two cyclists then cycled to the Zimbabwe Embassy near the Kotoko Airport.
Well-known West African media influencer Wode Maya, who earns up to US$100 000 per month on social media, was also there and it was a sentimental moment for him and Tshuma as the two follow each other on social media but had never met.
Amb Chinoza described the pair as great representatives of Zimbabwe.
“They have done well to market Africa and Zimbabwe as passable destinations. That they have cycled through so many countries is remarkable; they have carried the Zimbabwe flag with pride,” he said.
The cyclists alongside Maya were treated to a welcome ceremony where Zimbabwe’s sumptuous cuisine was available and socialised well into the evening as Zimbabwe was winning gold on the other side of the city. The pair is yet to decide where to move next.
They had intended to cycle to Burkina Faso but were advised against this for safety concerns.
