The Zimbabwe Embassy in Beijing was a sea of colour and nostalgia this past Saturday as Zimbabweans gathered to mark the nation’s 46th independence anniversary.
Amid the celebrations, a sharp focus on economic empowerment took centre stage, thanks to the presence of the China Black Business Summit (CBBS), which set up a booth at the invitation of the embassy.
Leading the CBBS team was logistics coordinator Ms Mitchell Mhlanga, who used the platform to rally the diaspora ahead of the main summit scheduled for November.
In her remarks, Ms Mhlanga said, “This event is an opportunity for growth, for connection, and for the recognition of the incredible talents of Black entrepreneurs globally. We look forward to bringing people together and providing a platform for greater collaboration and entrepreneurship.”
She emphasised the critical role of the Zimbabwean community in this year’s summit, saying: “It is vital that our people seize this moment. The connections made here can transform businesses and open doors that have long remained shut. We want Zimbabweans to walk away with real opportunities, not just memories.”
Saturday’s celebration also served as a powerful reminder of last year’s success, when Mr Garikai Kashitiku, a representative from the Zimbabwe Embassy, was invited as a speaker at the CBBS.
Reflecting on that milestone, Ms Mhlanga noted, “His participation highlighted the growing diplomatic and business ties between Zimbabwe and China. That was just the beginning. This year, we are going even further.”
She added, “We are thrilled to continue the work that was started last year. This year’s summit is shaping up to be even bigger, and we’re especially excited to invite Zimbabweans and other entrepreneurs to join us in November.”
