Zimbabwe’s electricity supply continues to improve steadily, with power generation reaching 1 586 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday (today), up from 1 417MW recorded on Monday, marking a crucial step towards energy security and economic resilience.
According to production figures released by the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC), the modest rise in output reflects significant progress in efforts to stabilise the national grid.
Hwange Power Station was the main driver of the recovery, ramping up production to 1 148MW from 979MW the previous day.
The rebound at Hwange follows swift technical interventions by ZPC engineers after a May 4 incident in which acidic water damaged multiple boilers.
Following the disruption, national output had slumped to 1 145MW between May 5 and May 9, with Hwange contributing only 670MW.
The lowest generation recorded this month was 989MW on May 17.
However, the tide turned on May 23, when power production peaked at 1 619MW, the highest for the month.
Kariba South Hydropower Station maintained a consistent supply of 400MW on Tuesday to the national grid, while Independent Power Producers (IPPs) added a further 38MW.
The recovery comes at a time when Zimbabwe is scaling up its industrialisation agenda under Vision 2030, with a reliable electricity supply being a key enabler of economic transformation.
