THE future of the country is bright due to various policy initiatives adopted by President Mnangagwa’s Government to empower youths, Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Emily Jesaya has said.
She said this in an interview to mark the National Youth Day the country celebrated on Wednesday.
Government has introduced a Youth Quota in the National Assembly including appointing several Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
“I believe that the President’’s approach is very positive and will have a significant impact on the future of our country. By supporting and encouraging young people to be involved in politics, the President is helping to create a more inclusive and vibrant democracy.
“This will give young people a voice and a stake in shaping the future of our country. I am also pleased to see that the President has committed to ensuring that women are given equal opportunities to participate in politics. This is an important step towards building a more equitable and just society for all,” she said.
The Deputy Minister, who has also benefitted from President Mnangagwa’s youth promotion drive, challenged young women who aspire to be politicians to be confident in their abilities and to not let anyone or any obstacle hinder them.
“In addition, I would encourage them to get involved in their communities and to seek out mentors who can help guide them on their journey. It’s also important for young women to be aware of the unique challenges they may face as politicians, and to be prepared to overcome these challenges.
“I would remind them to stay true to their values and to never lose sight of why they want to be politicians in the first place. They should remember that they are doing this to make a positive impact on the world around them, and to make life better for others.
“If they can keep that purpose in mind, they will find the strength to persevere through any obstacles that come their way,” Deputy Minister Jesaya said.
She said that her role as a Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, was on promoting youth development.
“I want to focus on creating more opportunities for young people to participate in sports at all levels. This includes increasing access to facilities, equipment, and training programmes.
“In addition, I want to promote the value of sportsmanship and fair play, as well as the importance of sports as a tool for social development.
“Lastly, I want to work towards ensuring that more young people have the opportunity to pursue careers in sports”.
