GWERU’S leading land developer, Zimbuild Property Investments has unveiled over 800 housing units in Charlton Park targeting clients from Midlands State University (MSU), Unki Mines and civil servants.
Zimbuild administration and public relations officer, Miss Precious Zvimba said the project was well on course with the end result of providing affordable housing units for Zimbabweans.
“The housing scheme is set to benefit at least 853 individuals who are contributing towards a two or three roomed core house.
“This project will be implemented in two phases which are purchasing of the stand and two the construction of a core house.
“We have the stands and are also involved in the construction of the houses,” she said.
Miss Zvimba said they were planning to have completed half of the housing units by end of the year.
“House plans for the scheme have been submitted and approved and we are excited as this is a huge project,” she said.
Miss Zvimba said the housing scheme was fully supported by the on-site brick moulding project which is fully operational at the newly established Charlton Park near Ascot Suburb.
“Charlton Park is our defining project with 853 stands.
“Water reticulation is done, roads are done to formation stage and sewer reticulation is in progress. This project is now selling and building plans can be submitted for approval.
“We are planning to have an open day, where all our clients can come and attest to the pace of development that we really mean business,” she said.
Miss Zvimba said Zimbuild was one of the private land developers in the country supporting the Government in the provision of affordable housing stands.
“We have to continue to sing the song of growth and development which is born out of the labour of hands.
“The burning desire to provide quality housing to all Zimbabweans has seen us provide employment for a number of youths in Gweru,” she said.
Miss Zvimba said Charlton Park is situated 10 kilometres from the Central Business District along Lower Gweru road and boasts of mixed residential stands ranging from 300-1000 square metres in size.
Zimbabwe’s housing demand is estimated at 1,25 million units.
Government through Zim-Asset acknowledges that affordable home ownership is an essential characteristic of the concept of Zimbabwean citizenship.
There is increasing population density particularly in urban centres; therefore, high rise developments including flats, which make maximum usage of the finite resource, land will be encouraged.
As part of efforts to support housing development, Government is encouraging private land developers and community-based programmes such as housing trusts and housing cooperatives to partner local authorities in housing development.
So far, housing cooperatives have managed to construct close to 95 000 housing units between 2010 and 2015, an initiative that has worked to reduce the country’s housing backlog.
