As if music is not enough dancehall chanters have decided to take their genre to another level by coming up with a film “Zimdancehall Stories”. The film was written by Onias Mawire and Fredrick Moyo of the Black Diamond studios, and is a season with 12 episodes that last an hour each. “Zimdancehall Stories” is a film that focuses on aspects that have to do with social issues.

The film is a voice of Zimdancehall chanters which talks about a young man, Tawanda, who goes to the city in search of greener pastures after failing to proceed with his education when he finished his O-Level studies.

The film is about what most dancehall chanters go through before rising to the top and the obstacles they face.

In the film, Tawanda the protagonist, is passionate about his music. This is received negatively by his family members and guardian since they want him to have a decent job as they consider music to be something of less value.

One of the writers, Mawire, said they hoped that the film will make it in the industry as it is the first of its kind to explore dancehall stories in Zimbabwe.

“As the first of its kind the film will make it in this industry. Most of all it will be dealing with current issues that will be happening on a daily basis and this will allow the film to continue as we cannot run out of current issues,” said Onias Mawire.

“We are also trying to introduce the artistes in this first episode and more will be introduced as time goes on and the film will be music driven,” he said

He said their main aim is to show the youths that the dancehall industry is not an easy road as it needs hard work and commitment.

However one of the writers of the film complained about financial challenges that they are facing in the film production and hopes to find sponsors.
