Zimpapers buys 43 bicycles for vendors

delivery of its newspapers.
The bicycles will be used for distributing the company’s newspapers to all suburbs in Harare and subscribers on time.

Speaking at the handover of the bicycles at Herald House yesterday, Zimpa-pers group chief executive Mr Justin Mutasa said vendors were an “important tool” in newspaper production and marketing hence the need to ensure they execute their duties effectively and efficiently.

“Vendors are a critical part in the value chain of production of our paper in that they interact with the customers everyday.
“They are the very people who know the customer better. They know the headlines that sell the paper and therefore these bicycles will enable them to discharge their duties timeously. In business circles we believe that the first one in the market has the business,” he said.

He said newspapers were perishable products, which need to be distributed on time.
He said the group had introduced the vendor of the quarter award as a way of motivating the vendors.

“Such incentives, as the one coming on July 8, will obviously lead to high performance especially in these times of competition. We will be rewarding you according to the paper sales so we want to bring competition within you so that we increase our sales which already top in the country,” he said.

Harare Branch general manager Mr Walter Chipwaya added: “As much as we are faced with challenges, we want to ensure that all departments involved in our production line get enough equipment.”

Chairperson of the Zimpapers vendors committee Mr Michael Muchabaiwa said the bicycles would go a long way in improving the group’s sales.
“This was a much awaited day on our side and all I can say is to urge you my colleagues to devote yourself to your work. Treat all the customers well and be efficient in your deliveries,” he said.
