SUNDAY News columnist, Dr Manners Msongelwa, a renowned educator, author, and president of the History Teachers Association of Zimbabwe, has been named one of Africa’s 100 Most Impactful Education Personalities for 2025.
This prestigious recognition is a testament to his tireless efforts to improve education in Zimbabwe and beyond.
“This prestigious honour is the result of a rigorous and highly selective screening process, which evaluated hundreds of outstanding educators and leaders across the continent. Your exceptional dedication, innovative contributions, and sustained impact in the field of education have distinguished you as a true change-maker in Africa’s education landscape,” said the director of Global Skills Hub, Honey Olawele.
Dr Msongelwa has authored ten educational books, including six history textbooks and four guidance and counseling books, which are widely used in schools across the country.
His digital presence is equally impressive, with a YouTube channel featuring recorded lessons on Zimbabwean history syllabus topics, making quality education more accessible to students nationwide.
In addition to his written and digital work, Dr Msongelwa is a regular contributor to the Sunday News, where he writes a weekly guidance and counseling column for students. He also features on Star FM every Saturday, educating students on morality, discipline, academic focus, and personal growth.
Dr Msongelwa’s commitment to mentoring and speaking has taken him to various parts of the country, where he has hosted seminars and workshops for students and teachers.
Recently, he co-hosted a mental health awareness workshop with television personality Vicky Maponga, highlighting the importance of emotional wellbeing in schools.
The Africa Education Summit, where Dr Msongelwa will be officially presented with the award, is a premier education event that brings together influential stakeholders to shape the future of education in Africa.
The summit is scheduled to take place from March 19 to 21 next year, at the University of Professional Studies in Accra, Ghana.
