Zimbabwe Newspapers’ senior driver Mr Samson Nyoka, who died on Tuesday after a short illness, was buried on Thursday at his rural homestead in Nyoka Village under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi.
He was 55.

The company’s senior management and his colleagues joined hundreds of mourners at the emotional send-off.

Speaking on behalf of Zimpapers chief executive Mr Justin Mutasa, transport manager Mr Kennedy Machisa described Mr Nyoka as a humble, loyal and sociable workmate.

“He took the company as his second home where he spent most of his time. He was a source of inspiration to junior drivers who emulated him in many ways,” he said.

Mr Mutasa donated US$300 towards burial costs.

Co-worker and senior driver Mr Peter Konono said Mr Nyoka was a hard working colleague who conducted his duties with ease.

“It is unfortunate we lost him when we wanted him most and anticipated that he was going to recover.”

The deceased’s eldest son Brian described his father was a loving leader of the family.

“We appreciate assistance given by his employers until the time of his burial.

“He was a unifier and his death left a void which is difficult to fill,” he said.

Mr Nyoka joined Zimpapers in 1982 and rose to become a senior driver.

He is survived by his wife, four children and four grandchildren.
