Zimpapers has taken a bold step into the future of journalism by launching its integrated newsroom this afternoon, thereby signalling a shift to a digital-first approach in response to changing audience habits.
Speaking at the launch today, acting Chief Executive Officer Mr William Chikoto said the move reflects the company’s commitment to delivering news quickly and efficiently across digital platforms while maintaining the influence of its print and broadcast channels.
“Over a decade ago, we recognised the need to evolve as audiences became increasingly digital. Today, we unveil a newsroom designed to commission, edit, and publish stories on digital platforms first, before curating content for print and broadcast,” Mr Chikoto said.
The transformation builds on Zimpapers’ expansion over the years from a print-focused company into a multi-platform media house, with radio stations including Star FM, Diamond FM, Capital FM, and Platinum FM, as well as the Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN).
Despite these advancements, the company identified the growing dominance of digital media as the key challenge requiring urgent action.
The new integrated newsroom operates as a content factory, producing material for online, radio, television, and print platforms, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
While print remains influential and continues to reach high-impact audiences, digital content is now prioritised, particularly for mobile users who represent a rapidly growing segment of Zimpapers’ readership.
However, Mr Chikoto stressed that the move to digital does not signal the end of print.
“Print newspapers remain vital, trusted, and influential. What we are doing is giving audiences the freedom to choose the platform that suits them best, whether print, radio, television, or digital,” he said.
The Acting CEO also thanked the management team, editors, journalists, partners, bankers, and advertisers for supporting the project.
He concluded that Zimpapers is now ready to deliver relevant and credible content with speed in the digital age, while continuing to inform, educate, and entertain Zimbabweans anywhere, anytime.
The launch positions Zimpapers at the forefront of media innovation in Zimbabwe, blending a long tradition of journalism with the demands of the digital era.
