Zimpapers sponsors schools merit awards

ZIMPAPERS has, for the second year in a row, sponsored the Harare Provincial Merit Awards where more than 10 schools with the best 2012 public national examination results walked away with shields and money .The sponsorship was done through the printing and publishing group’s Southern Times and vernacular Kwayedza newspapers.
Schools with the best Grade 7, O-Level and A-Level results received shields, prize money and three months free subscription of The Southern Times and Kwayedza at the function.

The schools included Chinembiri Primary, Queen Elizabeth, Churchill Boys High, Mufakose High, ZRP High and Selbourne Routledge.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Celebration Centre in Harare last Friday, CBZ Bank divisional director of retail banking, Mrs Molly Dingane, who was the guest of honour, commended the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for its quality academic work, sporting and cultural activities.

“I am sure everyone will agree with me that like wine, this ministry is getting better with age because despite the economic challenges that every other ministry, sector or department is facing, they have continued to serve quality academic work, quality sporting and quality cultural activities over the years,” she said.

The prizes received by the schools, said Mrs Dingane, were a token of appreciation to stimulate them to work even harder in realising their aspirations.

Speaking at the same occasion, acting Harare provincial educational director Mr Edward Shumba said the ministry had experienced and dedicated teachers who were doing their best in improving the quality of education.

“The schools are manned by dedicated teachers who have seen it through hard times to achieve such beautiful results and I want to thank them on behalf of the ministry,” he said.

“This event also saw the handover of various prizes which included laptops, stationery and trophies to students and schools that excelled in their studies, courtesy of other sponsors which included CBZ, Cablemail and Innscor.”
