Zimpapers staffer fined for stealing B-Metro copies

Court Reporter
A Zimpapers employee was yesterday fined $80 (or one month jail term) for stealing $40-worth of copies of the B-Metro newspaper. Calistas Munetsi (23) of number 6298 Bloomingdale, Mabelreign, appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Kudzai Zihove charged with theft. Ms Zihove sentenced Munetsi to a further three months which was wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Facts were that on November 20 this year at Zimpapers offices in Simon Mazorodze Road, Munetsi stole 40 copies of B-Metro after taking advantage of security guards changing shifts.

He gave the newspapers to a vendor Talent Chipwanya so that he would sell the newspapers on his behalf. Chipwanya notified security personnel at the offices who then carried out an identification parade and he positively identified Munetsi.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Munetsi’s arrest and all the newspapers were recovered. Ms Yvonne Gurira prosecuted.
