A ZIMPAPERS team visited St John’s Chikwaka High School Media Club in Goromonzi.
The team was made up of Zimpapers Public Relations Manager, Pauline Matanda, ZTN Head of Output, Ishmael Ndlovu and Sunday Mail Community Editor, Fatima Bulla-Musakwa.
The visit was meant to help develop the students’ journalism skills as part of the Zimpapers Junior Media Club’s initiative.
The school’s media club has a board made up of president, Yolanda Mukwe, attorney Samantha Magaya, general manager, Tanatswa Chidiya, and photographer, Tapiwa Shumba.
The students were shown how Zimpapers Television Network and Sunday Mail operate.
They were also given a donation of 100 trees from the GreenUp campaign, sponsored by Friends of the Environment, as part of the club’s introduction.
The visit was part of the Zimpapers Junior Media Club’s initiative, a corporate social responsibility project aimed at equipping students with media skills.
The students had an opportunity to ask questions and also comment on various aspects of journalism.
Nokutenda Chiponda, the director of photography of the Junior Media Club, gave a heart-warming speech about how privileged she felt to be learning about journalism while still in secondary school.
Mukwe and Matanda planted a tree with the aid of agricultural teacher, Mr Muvevi.
“If you put in a lot of effort in your school work, you will become brilliant journalists in future,” said ZTN’s Ndlovu.
