MHONDORO-Ngezi-based platinum giant, Zimplats, has been lauded by Government for prioritising school infrastructure development as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Speaking during the handover of two classroom blocks and ablution facilities constructed at Turf Primary School by Zimplats, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo said Government appreciates public-private-partnership as it has addressed infrastructure challenges in the province.
Zimplats has to date availed over US$4 million towards corporate social responsibility, most of which was channeled towards schools and health care facilities.
Minister Chombo challenged other organisations to take a leaf from Zimplats to improve development.
Zimplats Corporate Affairs Manager, Ms Busi Chindowe who stood in for Chief Executive Officer Mr Alex Mhembere said the organisation had taken a deliberate stance towards modernising schools in the area it operates from by equipping them with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) gadgets and state-of-the-art laboratories.
The school has an enrolment of over 3 000 children and 100 qualified teaching staff.
Mashonaland West has a deficit of at least 120 schools.
