Zimplats has donated disinfectants, medical and personal protective equipment to health institutions in Mashonaland West Province to capacitate them and enhance their preparedness against Covid-19.
The firm has so far handed over ventilators, disinfectants, screening tents, knapsack sprayers, infrared thermometers and face masks to Kadoma General Hospital, Chegutu District Hospital, Selous Clinic and Norton Hospital.
Speaking to The Herald on the sidelines of the Norton handover ceremony, Zimplats head of corporate affairs Ms Busi Chindove said Zimplats prioritised the safety and wellness of its staff and the communities it operates from.
“We have put in a robust system in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that we protect every single member of the staff. This started with an awareness campaign, which is ongoing so that people understand what Covid-19 is and what they need to do to protect themselves and their families from contracting the virus so we have also put in place medical facilities within our own premises as a response strategy and these are robust as well,” she said.
She said Zimplats appreciated that it cannot operate as an island, but was operating not just within their immediate communities but the entire Zimbabwe.
Ms Chindove said the company had put aside funds that were being used to capacitate different medical institutions and enhance their ability to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have equipped Kadoma General Hospital, Chegutu District hospital, Norton Hospital and Selous clinic and next week we will continue with Mhondoro Ngezi District and Mubaira, which is in Chegutu Rural so our response has been to equip them.”
