NGEZI community has hailed Zimplats for launching income-generating projects that have empowered their youths.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Mangaliso Ndlovu toured the various projects that are being undertaken by the youth in Ngezi.
Speaking during the tour, Combined Technical Services (CTS), safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) officer, Miss Fatima Sunura said they have always wanted an opportunity to grow.
“We wanted some experience because when you are looking for a job, they consider it,” she said.
“So we are grateful to Zimplats, we are getting a lot of knowledge. As youths, we are getting the opportunity to do what we have always wanted to do. Here, we are doing a lot of fabrication, we have boilermakers, machinists, fitters and hydraulics engineers,” said Miss Sunura.
CTS foreman, Mr Prosper Madzima said they are doing a lot of work courtesy of Zimplats.
“We are fabricating buckets, thumb boxes and providing life extensions for machines,” he said.
“We used to send the machine out for life extensions, but we are now doing it locally. We also repair the cylinders locally,” he said.
Mr Madzima said they can extend industrial engine life from half to probably three-quarters of its life after the retirement of the machine.
