Zimpost is offering new products and services to adapt and cope with technological advancements in the field that have affected their traditional business, the Post Master General, Mr Maxwell Chitendeni, has said.
Mr Chitendeni made the remarks in an interview at the just-ended Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
“We have realigned ourselves by making sure that we embrace technology through the issue of digital stamps, through the issue of advanced products and services under that category. We have also done a lot to include everybody through the financial sector by making sure that we also offer a mobile service where people can send and receive money online or through their mobile phones.
“What we have done through the Post Money brand is engage a lot of countries through our Universal Postal Union and signed up with them where people can send and receive money from outside the country,” he said.
Mr Chitendeni added that they had also re-purposed some of their buildings and let them to businesses, especially those in the ICT sector, to generate income.
“Also, as Zimpost we have also looked at other products and services under the e-government wallet or under the e-government arm and we are engaging other Government departments where their services can also be seen in remote areas where we are,” he said.
He said they had also entered into a partnership with the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe to enable them participate in the procurement sector through the use of community information centres to apply for Government tenders.
Mr Chitendeni added that they had other products and services they were working on to ensure they remain relevant in a modern world.
