Borrowdale Post Office Postal Manager appeared in court to answer  charges of theft of trust property of  $12 984 053

Tatenda Ngara (29) stood before Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda today and he was remanded in custody.

He will return to court on September 6, 2022 for court proceedings.

The complainant in this case is Post Office Zimbabwe represented by Richard Chikuni,  who is the audit manager.

The State represented by prosecutor Anesu Chirenje alleges that sometime in May to August 2022, Ngara was entrusted to collect revenue from the purchase of vehicle and radio licences by various clients at Post Office, Borrowdale branch.

Ngara abused the trust bestowed and he collected $12 984 053 from various customers and instead of remitting the money to Post Office, converted it to his personal use.

The offence was discovered when the complainant Mr Chikuni made a reconciliation on the daily sales sheet posted by Ngara as from May to August 2022 thus unearthing the discrepancy.

The Post Office suffered actual prejudice of $12 984 053.
