THE fifth edition of the ZIMPOST Mr Pace half- marathon will be staged tomorrow at Alexander Sports Club, catering for the 5km, 10km and the 21km half-marathon and the wheelchair races.
With a prize money of US$1 000 for both male and female athletes for finishing first the race in the main race – the half-marathon – fierce competition is expected at this event.
Second-placed athletes in the main race will both receive US$700 while third-placed will walk home US$300 richer.
The wheelchair, Veterans, Masters and Grandmasters will all get US$150 first prize for their efforts. There will also be cash prizes for 10km primary school athletes who will get US$150 for first prize.
Mr Pace director Collen Makaza says they are looking forward to a successful event.
“We are happy to be hosting the annual ZIMPOST Mr Pace half-marathon in a which we will have top athletes from across the country.
“We also have some foreign-based athletes who have come on board and they will improve the competition.
“We have increased number of foreign athletes to three male and females as the race gets international interest
“Local top athletes in the women section like defending champion Fortunate Chidzivo, Miriam Sibanda and Melody Kaseke among several others are expected to be part of the starting line.”
Peter Tauzeni will be making his debut in the 21km race and will have to contend with seasoned Peter Chigiya for the lucrative purse money.
“The race has been improving over the past years and we are grateful to all those who have come on board,” Makaza said.
The race is supported by Zimpost, NICOZ Diamond, GRUMA and Mr Pace Athletics Club.
