They have stood the test and taste of time in a genre that has been swarmed by many who have failed to make it or some who have made it first with a few Biblical verses and fizzled out.
Their power does not seem to be in their stage work, but in their resilience and ability to adapt to times and situations.
Where many huge and even small groups have collapsed due to individualism, they have glued together and remained focussed, by each day that passes.
This is the myth and mystery of inter- denominational choral outfit, ZimPraise.
As their name suggests, they are set to raise praise for Zimbabwe as they embark on a three-nations tour of praise and worship.
So special is the tour that, it will be used to launch AfriPraise, a new baby under ZimPraise.
In an interview with The Herald Arts, founder member and chief executive Joseph Madziyire confirmed about the tour and explained about the latest development on AfriPraise.
“It is true that this year’s tour will see the choral group performing in three countries such as Canada, United Kingdom and South Africa. The dates are already out and the tour starts June, July and August. We will maximise the opportunity for AfriPraise.”
“We have started doing the visas and engaged relative stakeholder and sponsors to assist in the project. ZimPraise will always be the same as you know it, just that each year we will have something cooking,” said Madziyire.
Asked about the speculation on AfriPraise, he said that it is a multicultural global network of gospel musicians and creative artistes coming together to form one big global village around the world.
“The main objective is to create platform for music and gospel artistes inspired out of Africa.”
“This artistry will be produced and shared with the rest of the world. We are spreading the word of God through music and arts inspired by the African Christian heritage,” said Madziyire.
The chief executive cum instrumentalist said everyone, is allowed to take part in the project as long as they have Africa and its heritage at heart.
“AfriPraise is a hub and platform that brings together the artistes, media houses and the consumers. On its inception, AfriPraise will be launching a choir in the United Kingdom and then many other countries around the world will follow, musicians, artistes and singers will be auditioned to join and be a part of the movement,” explained Madziyire.
He added that AfriPraise auditions are currently running in the United Kingdom with other countries to follow suit.
“Aspiring artistes are expected to send a two-minute video of themselves, singing, dancing or playing whatever instrument you play to a number on WhatsApp.”
“Once you pass the first stage you will be called in for an interview and in person audition”.
