ZIMBABWE opener Brian Bennett is in the running for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September, along with India’s brightest white-ball stars Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav.
Announcing the nominations, the ICC said Bennett’s brilliance is one of the reasons Zimbabwe managed to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett was in exceptional touch throughout September, scoring 497 runs in nine T20Is at an average of 55.22 and a strike rate of 165.66,” said ICC.
“After topping the charts in series against Sri Lanka and Namibia, he carried his form into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final, scoring 72, 65 and 111 in his first three innings.
“Bennett’s consistency with the bat and clean hitting was vital as Zimbabwe secured qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup.”
India’s Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm spinner, is said to have produced “a dream run with the ball, emerging as the leading wicket-taker at the Asia Cup with 17 scalps at an economy rate of 6.27”.
Another Indian, Abhishek Sharma, had “an explosive run of form during the Asia Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament as India lifted the trophy”.
