ZIMBABWE’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has drawn attention in Europe, featuring on the front pages of Dutch newspapers.

Speaking to journalists in Harare after meeting Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, the Netherlands Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Koninkrijk der Nederlanden, said the development represents a milestone for the country.

“I congratulated the Vice President on Zimbabwe’s non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council, and I shared that it was even a story in the Dutch newspapers, front page news,” he said.

“I had a very pleasant conversation with the Honourable Vice President,” the Ambassador said, “We discussed matters of mutual interest, including trade and the broader economic relations between our two countries.”

Ambassador Nederlandem said trade figures have doubled over the past four years, adding that there remains room for further growth, particularly in sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture and water.
