THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has started paying markers of the November 2013 Ordinary and Advanced Level national examinations, an official said yesterday.Zimsec director Esau Nhandara allayed fears that the markers were not going to receive their dues.
“We have started paying the Zimsec markers and we are doing it in phases. We have paid 55 percent of O-Level markers their dues and 50 percent of Advanced Level markers,” he said.
Nhandara said the money to pay the O and A Level markers had been realised from the examination fees paid by sitting candidates.
He, however, said the situation was different for Grade 7 markers as the candidates did not pay examination fees.
“The money to pay Grade 7 markers comes from the fiscus and we haven’t received any. So we are still to pay them,” he said.
Some senior examiners have been threatening to withdraw their services if the national examination council continued with such conduct.
