Zimsec is expected to release A’ Level results at the end of the month while those for O’ Level are usually released in February.
“I am reliably informed that the marking of the examinations is going on well and we want to meet our normal release deadline,” said Zimsec board chairperson, Professor Norman Maphosa in an interview yesterday.
The marking of the examinations began in December.
The majority of the markers are teachers who specialise in the different subjects.
Prof Maphosa allayed fears that the marking process would be affected by the opening of schools for first term tomorrow.
“This is not the first time schools are opening before the marking is complete.
“I am not sure of the dynamics but the marking will not be disrupted by the opening of schools.
“These markers mark from a particular centre and I cannot imagine a scenario where they will be released from the centres before the exercise is complete,” he said.
Prof Maphosa said Zimsec still has an effective and efficient system despite the recent unfortunate incidences that has seen the examinations body delaying marking.
For example, last year the marking of Grade Seven examinations was delayed because Zimsec was waiting for the Ministry of Finance to release $1,5 million that was needed for the exercise.
Cabinet had to order Zimsec to use its own resources for the exercise resulting in Grade Seven results being released in the first week of December.
Traditionally, the Grade Seven examinations are written in early October with the results usually released at the beginning of December when schools close.
