Zimstat, the national statistics agency, is conducting an Agriculture and Livestock Survey to collect agriculture production data for the last summer agriculture season.
The survey which started yesterday and is expected to end October 14 aims to produce statistics on crop production and third quarter employment.
Data collection is being conducted in large scale commercial farms, small scale commercial farms, communal lands, old resettlement schemes (Models A, B1, B2 and E), A1 farms and A2 farms, and urban areas in Harare and Bulawayo.
Zimstat acting director-general Mrs Fadzayi Ndlovu said the Agriculture and Livestock Survey was conducted under the provisions of the Census and Statistics Act and information collected from respondents is strictly confidential to the agency and used for statistical purposes only.
“Trained Zimstat staff comprising supervisors, team leaders, and enumerators will be in the field to conduct the survey and will be carrying official identification letters,” she said.
“Zimstat is appealing for cooperation from farmers who were selected to be part of this vital exercise. For more information on the exercise, kindly contact our national statistics agency staff across the country’s 10 provinces.”
Last month, Zimstat conducted a household budget survey that listed households countrywide.
The survey aimed to facilitate the selection of households that will be covered in the household budget survey.
The information collected during the listing of households includes the status of residential and non-residential structures and the occupation status of dwellings.
It also included the number of households in a structure and the names of heads of households.
The household budget survey was conducted under the same Act to provide data on consumer price index weights, poverty prevalence and the contribution of the informal sector to the Gross Domestic Product.
