THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency is hunting for a new director-general after operating for several years under the supervision of an acting director-general.
The Zimstat board of directors has engaged Lorimak Executive Recruitment to shortlist suitable candidates for the job. Mr Moffat Nyoni has been acting in that position since September 2004.
The director-general’s duties include co-ordination and supervision of the national statistical system and to advise the Government on all matters related to statistics.
Formerly the Central Statistical Office, Zimstat is the custodian and authoritative source of official statistics in Zimbabwe in terms of the Census and Statistics Act of 2007.
The board of directors is currently finalising the national strategy for the development of statistics for all the sectors of the economy.
Zimstat has in the past carried out a number of surveys that include the Agriculture and Livestock Survey, Volume of Manufacturing Index Survey and Zimbabwe Demographic and Health Survey. The Volume of Manufacturing Index Survey, which measures performance of the 11 manufacturing sub-sectors, noted an improvement in the industry though at a slower than anticipated level last year.
