The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) has partnered with the United Nations to harness the power of data for national and global development.
Speaking during the Data for Development and Innovation Working Group (DFDI) 2025 yesterday, ZimStat director-general Ms Tafadzwa Bandama there is need for greater innovation in monitoring progress towards national and regional development goal commitments.
Ms Bandama said limited financial and technical resources present challenges in addressing existing and emerging data gaps.
“Strong partnerships and collaborations ensure a continuous supply of quality data, thus minimising the emergence of data gaps,” she said.
Ms Bandama said there are achievements from previous DFDI groups, including a joint work plan to reduce duplication and boost efficiency.
The 2025 Data for Development and Innovation (DFDI) working group is set to update the 2024 action plan and consolidate the 2025 joint work plan.
Ms Miranda Tabifor, country representative for the UNFPA, said the platform is valuable and is not like any other group.
“Without data, we cannot plan. We cannot drive the country’s development.”
She said the DFDI Working Group is enshrined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
