TENDAI Zimuto of the Black Rhinos Athletics Club clinched the elite men’s 42km title at the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon yesterday.
He clocked an impressive official time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 09 seconds.
According to the official Econet Victoria Falls Marathon Results Portal, Zimuto outpaced fierce rivals Owen Slowly and Blessing Waison to secure the top spot on the podium.
In the elite women’s category, Kenyan runner Sylvia Kwambai crossed the finish line first with a fine time of 2:46:06.
She held off strong challenges from Zimbabwean distance runners Fortunate Chidzivo and Olympian Rutendo Nyahora who took second and third place respectively.
The 21km half-marathon division delivered equally fast-paced action across both fields.
In the men’s race, Godwin Katakura, arrived home first to take the crown.
Moses Tarakinyu finished close behind in second place, while Andrew Dick rounded out the podium in third.
Kenyan Mercy Chemutai dominated the field to secure the gold in the women’s category.
Melody Kaseke crossed next for second place, with Peris Lobakan taking the final spot on the podium. – Agencies
