Zimbabwe’s business process outsourcing (BPO) company, ZimworX, is complementing the Government’s employment creation efforts by empowering the youths to take advantage of opportunities in the local and global market.
The company has expanded its operations to Victoria Falls as part of efforts to create employment for young people and connect local talent to international clients in the global marketplace.
The firm’s country director, Mr Tonderai Nyakuhwa, said ZimworX’s business model was centred on unlocking the potential of the youths by providing professional opportunities that meet international standards without the need to leave the country.
“ZimworX is an outsourcing company and we connect Zimbabwe’s labour force to the international world,” he said.
“We have clients in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Anything that can be done remotely, that is what we do.”
Mr Nyakuhwa said the company currently employs over 1 100 workers, with 67 percent being women and the average age being 26, reflecting a strong focus on youths empowerment and gender inclusion.
“Most of our employees are straight from college, and this is their first job,” he said.
“We give them exposure to international clientele while they are still based here in Zimbabwe. This helps them gain global experience and reduces the need to migrate for work.”
He said the expansion to Victoria Falls was not only strategic but also symbolic, showcasing Zimbabwe’s growing economic potential beyond tourism.
“Victoria Falls is known internationally as a tourism hub, but we wanted to show that it can also be a centre for technology and innovation,” Mr Nyakuhwa said.
“Our expansion there is about proving that Zimbabwe has world-class talent.”
To maintain global standards, ZimworX has established a robust recruitment and in-house training programme to prepare its staff for international assignments.
“We have an extensive recruitment and training process. Once our team members complete it, we are confident they are well prepared for the international market,” said Mr Nyakuhwa.
He said the company was working with Government institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion and the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) to improve infrastructure that supports business expansion into other parts of the country.
“We are engaging the Government to address infrastructure challenges in areas such as Chipinge and Mutare,” Mr Nyakuhwa said.
“Once that is in place, we will scale up quickly and create even more jobs across the country.”
Mr Nyakuhwa said ZimworX was driven by a Christian ethos, donating 51 percent of its profits to charity as part of its mission to transform lives while making a global impact for the kingdom.
He said the company was also spearheading national efforts to position Zimbabwe as a competitive BPO destination through the BPO Council Association of Zimbabwe, where he serves as chairperson.
“We are leading the ‘Bring BPO to Zimbabwe’ campaign, similar to what South Africa has done. We want to show the world that Zimbabwe works.”
ZimworX plans to increase its workforce to 20 000 employees by 2032, a move expected to significantly boost employment creation, youths skills development and foreign currency inflows.
“Our vision is to transform lives through job creation and global exposure for young Zimbabweans,” Mr Nyakuhwa said.
“We believe Zimbabwe has the talent and capacity to serve the world.”
The initiative aligns with the Government’s Vision 2030 and national employment goals, which seek to promote youth empowerment, skills development and economic growth through innovative sectors such as ICT and outsourcing.
By leveraging Zimbabwe’s young and educated workforce, ZimworX is contributing to the country’s drive to create sustainable jobs and reduce youth unemployment.
