Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA)’s provincial vehicle licensing supervisor Luke Manyamazi and his two accomplices Jephias Magarasadza and Enock Mapondo, who allegedly defrauded their employer of $196 000 in a vehicle licensing scam, have been further remanded in custody by the new Anti-Corruption Court.

Masvingo provincial magistrate Mr Langhton Ndokera last week remanded the trio, who are facing 127 counts of fraud, to July 3, 2018.

Allegations that Manyamazi, whose duties at ZINARA are to create and top up bulk vehicle licenses for the company’s clients, connived with his accomplices to create new accounts with fictitious values, which they would use to clear other accounts, while siphoning huge amounts from the company in the process.

The duty of the two co-accused persons in the racket was allegedly to bring new clients with huge arrears, who needed a top up of the bulk licensing accounts using the fictitious values.

The fake values were created in the accounts of five companies namely: ATC Transport, Cold Storage Company (CSC), Riverton Agro-Masvingo, 12 Apostles, Zinwa and the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council.

The company suffered a prejudice of over $196 000 as a result of the scam.

The matter came to light following an internal audit recently conducted by the company.
