The Zimbabwe National Water Authority will soon introduce point of sale machines at its payment stations in farming and communal areas to make it easier for customers to pay bills.
Zinwa corporate communications and marketing manager Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said the parastatal was embracing the use of plastic money.
She was speaking during a recent media tour of properties in Chiredzi, including Tokwe Mukosi Dam and irrigation canals in Triangle,
Zinwa also used EcoCash and was looking at other electronic payment systems.
Mrs Munyonga said Zinwa was adopting a number of measures to recover the money it was owed by farmers and other customers to speed up construction of its water facilities to improve service delivery.
Zinwa is owed $140 million by its customers and the debt makes it difficult to upgrade facilities..
“We are engaging various organisations which owe us outstanding payments, which include local authorities and farmers. We are also in the process of engaging debt collectors to assist us in clearing the debt,” she said.
Zinwa operations manager in the Sanyati catchment area Engineer Justin Mapanzura said Zinwa was restructuring facilities in Chivhu to improve service delivery.
Chikomba Rural District Council has about 6000 occupied households supplied by Chikomba Dam but Chivhu residents, supplied by the dam, owed Zinwa $38 000.
