The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) has installed 22 alarm systems out of 29 transmitters powering the Nyamandlovu aquifer boreholes, a move that has significantly reduced vandalism by criminal elements.
This development was achieved in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), showcasing a successful whole-of-government approach.

Speaking during a visit to the Epping pump station by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka, who was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired Brigadier Levy Mayihlome, ZINWA’s Director of Engineering and Hydrological Services, Engineer Takudza Makwangudze, highlighted the progress made.
Engineer Makwangudze revealed that the Authority had also installed automatic switches for the boreholes. These technological upgrades have enabled ZINWA to increase water supply to Bulawayo to a record 25.8 megalitres per day, a significant rise from as low as three megalitres previously.
