THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has begun the installation of an additional 4 000 prepaid water meters in Gokwe town in the Midlands province.
The first 1 500 prepaid water meters were installed last year.
Zinwa corporate communications and marketing manager, Mrs Marjorie Munyonga, said the installation of prepaid water meters was progressing well.

Out of 4 000 meters, a total of 2 350 prepaid meters had been installed by July 31.
“With prepaid water meters clients pay for their water in advance. The authority is rolling out prepaid water meters for its clients as part of its drive to bring enhanced convenience to clients and to afford water users greater control of their water consumption patterns,” she said.
Mrs Munyonga said the installation of prepaid water meters will help improve service delivery as resources being used for activities such as meter reading, billing and debt recovery will then be channelled towards other critical areas such as maintenance of water treatment plants and responding to breakdowns.
“Zinwa targets to install 35 000 prepaid water meters for its clients across the country by the end of the year,” she said.
The authority is also installing bulk prepaid water meters for its commercial and institutional clients. The rollout of the prepaid water meters follows the successful piloting of the concept in Mvurwi and Chivhu towns in 2019.
To date, prepaid water meters have been successfully rolled out in Nyanga, Hwange, Karoi, Mutoko, Murehwa Filabusi, Chivhu and Mvurwi.— @pchitumba1
