Zisca condemns assault on coaches

The duo were attacked by the bouncers just before kick off of their Castle Lager                    Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday and had to be rushed to hospital.
They missed the match. Chipangano who lacked guidance from their technical think-tank, lost the match 4-2 although they put up a good performance.

Hwange were the first to arrive at the stadium and changed from the visitors’   dressing room, ready for a warm up while Dynamos were still outside the stadium.

As Dynamos came in, Dube and Njekwa who were standing in the corridor are alleged to have moved to either side of the walls so that the DeMbare players could pass between them.

But the Dynamos players stood still and refused to proceed, insisting that the Hwange coaches should both make room by standing to one side of the wall.

However, Dube and Njekwa insisted that they had made way for their hosts and during the stand-off, the marshals allegedly violently shoved them against the walls and Dube had his head repeatedly hit against the wall.

During the scuffles, Hwange players fled from their dressing room and refused to go for warm up.
Dynamos players who seemed not bothered by the drama, took to the field and warmed up along the match officials.

Dube and Njekwa were escorted to hospital before play could resume after Hwange secretary Burzil Dube had written a letter of protest.

In the absence of their coaches, Hwange were under kit manager Andrew Zulu and fitness trainer Kenny Nyape.

Zisca national chairman, Bheki Nyoni said his organisation was dismayed and extremely disappointed by the Dynamos bouncers’ behaviour.

“We strongly condemn such behaviour where our members are needlessly and ruthlessly assaulted while conducting their duties.

“We call upon the PSL to take stern measures against the perpetrators and in this case their principal which is Dynamos,” said Nyoni.

He said Zisca will wait with keen interest to see what action will be taken against Dynamos. He expressed gratitude to the police for moving swiftly to arrest the three bouncers.

“We commend the police and even Dynamos because initially only one bouncer was arrested but with the assistance of Dynamos marshals, the other two were apprehended,” said Nyoni.

Last year then Highlanders assistant coach Dumaza Dube had to run for dear life when Dynamos bouncers charged at him.

Contacted for comment, PSL chief executive officer, Kennedy Ndebele refused to comment  saying he could only do so after receiving the  referees’  report.

“Let me get the report first,” said Ndebele.

Dynamos chairman, Kenny Mubaiwa said he did not attend the match and hence could not comment on behalf of the club.
“I personally do not condone that. Those are primitive yesteryear actions. We will however issue an official statement as a club once I am fully briefed,” said Mubaiwa.

With Dynamos involved in continental competition where they play Tunisian giants, Esperance in the return leg of the Caf Champions League second round match at Rufaro Stadium this coming Sunday, any repeat of such foolish behaviour might prove very costly.

The lack of discipline by club officials and players which has seen players being punished during Caf competitions and on the domestic scene, should be a cause for concern for the Mubaiwa                  executive.
