FASTER times were recorded during this year’s ZITF Four Minute Mile final that took place on Saturday, an official has said.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) secretary-general Dailes Bingadadi attributed the improvement in times to the stringent qualifying process that saw semi-finals being held a day earlier.
“Usually, we would have one or two athletes posting good times but this time the times were close knitted and every athlete gave a good account of themselves. Having one stage being completed a day meant that the athletes had ample time to rest for the next stage,” said Bingadadi.
She added that they were generally satisfied with the turnout of athletes as it showed an improvement from the previous years.
“Every year this event is growing thanks to Delta Beverages through their sponsorship. We are expecting it to be even much bigger next year,” said Bingadadi.
Trust Chidomaya was the victor on the day with a time of 4 minutes 16, 07 secs. Cephas Pasipamire of ZRP was second, clocking 4 minutes 16,71secs while Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services’ Jonathan Chinyoka emerged third in a time of 4 minutes 17,90secs.
There were monetary prizes for the top 10 athletes with the winner taking home $800 while the first and second runners up took home $500 and $450 respectively.
