Ziyawa empowers youth through shows

 

meant to educate the youths in different suburbs in Bulawayo.

In an interview, the group’s assistant director Tawanda Mariranyika said the objective was to help empower youths who have been forced to indulge in anti-social activities such as drinking beer, smoking dagga and prostitution because they have nothing to do.

“As a performing group we are not just after  entertaining the youths but we want to entertain and educate at the same time.

“We want to reduce cases of teenage pregnancy and drug abuse,” he said.

One of the members, Leslia Moyo, said many girls ended up indulging in sex resulting in unwanted pregnancies because they had nothing to do.

“If the girl child is empowered with information, she will refrain from engaging in anti-social  activities because she will be aware of the dangers,” she said.

The group has staged shows at Plumtree High, Dombodema, Mawaba, Khumalo,  Mahatshula and the recently held Governor’s Ball in Bulawayo.
