In a show of compassion and community engagement, ZKS Spinners Arena has partnered with Khami Maximum Prison for its upcoming Heroes Day celebration on August 11.
The collaboration follows a recent donation by Zakhele Mlilo, founder and director of ZKS Spinners Arena, who provided the inmates with blankets, plastic plates, buckets, and essential electrical tools to help them cope with the harsh winter conditions.
Inspired by his visit to the prison during the donation, Mlilo proposed a partnership that would empower inmates to exhibit and sell their hand-crafted goods and agricultural produce during the upcoming event.
“Our collaboration with Khami Prison began earlier this year after we made a donation to the inmates. During that visit, we discovered that they are engaged in a variety of productive activities, including farming, metalwork, and woodwork.
“We felt it was important to support their rehabilitation by giving them a second chance to reintegrate into society. Through their participation in the Heroes Day event, they’ll have the opportunity to showcase and sell their products, earning an income while connecting with the community,” said Mlilo.
The initiative aims to support inmate rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
“Working closely with prisoners is part of the rehabilitation process. Their participation in the event fosters a sense of purpose and helps them feel connected to the community,” said Mlilo.
The event promises a packed programme. Beyond the inmates’ exhibitions, a major highlight will be a live performance by the award-winning Tshibilika group, Insimbi ZeZhwane.
Attendees can also enjoy a range of entertainment activities, including horse riding, an ostrich experience and viewing, as well as thrilling car spinning and burn-out sessions. Popular drifters such as AK 47, Mac D, Amakhosi, The Rock, and King Fly are set to headline the motorsport showcase.
